Culture-rich and Hansaetic city of Tartu is the capital of southern Estonia. It is the second largest city in the country and the oldest in the Baltic States which is economically well-developed and has great historical heritage.

Tartu has huge potential and good preconditions to become one of the most important conference tourism centres in Estonia. It is closely linked to the University of Tartu, its higher educational and research institutions; the international and national rsearch events (conferences and colloquia) which take place there. Through its scientists Tartu is represented in numerous international organisations, eg. The University of Tartu is a member of COIMBRA associtaion (unions, associations, societies). Therefore a network exists which can be utilised in developing conference tourism.
