The Kärkna monastery is listed in the oldest documents (from 1234) under the name of Valkana, Valkena and Falkenaul. In its time it was one of the largest centres for Cistercian monks in all of Livonia.
The manor is located in Tartu parish. The manor is currently under private ownership, so public visits are not arranged.
The Saadjärve manor, presently privately owned, was known in history also as Sadjerv and Brackelshof.
