The Alam-Pedja Nature Reserve is located in the former depression of Lake Võrtsjärv. There are 12 natural running water bodies with a total length of 115 kilometres and 55 oxbow meanders that cover another 51 km. Between the rivers lay almost undisturbed mires, floodplain areas and wet forests. The reserve is managed by the southern region of the State Nature Conservation Centre.
