The trip
starts from the conference venue with our professional guide. Get acquainted
with the villages of Russian Old Believers - an interesting ethnic group who
have still preserved their culture and customs. We also make a stop at the Lake Peipus.

One region,
three cultures - Russian Orthodox Old Believers, traces of the German barons
era, and Estonian cultural history. Lake Peipus area is a somewhat mystical
place where on one hand Russian Old Believers who in the 17th
century became separated from the official Russian Orthodox Church and
emigrated to Estonia, live in their unique one-street village trying to
preserve their religion, history and traditions.
We
meet the small minority known as the Old Believers, who arrived in this area
over 300 years ago, fleeing persecution in Russia. They have kept their
religion, traditions and life style and are gradually
beginning to welcome visitors. During the tour we see their traditional architecture, the so called "row-villages", visit one of the museums and churches and meet some of them at their work or home.
The tour starts from your conference venue. We take the lunch packages with us. We drive to Taevaskoja to see the
sandstone cliffs, the highest of them being 24 meters high. We will also see the Maid's Cave, Sorcerer's Stone and Spy's Stone. The guide will tell you the mysterious legends about these places.
The
historic Tartu-Võru-Pihkva postal road
leads a different life today than hundreds of years ago when it was used for
delivering post to Pskov, Russia. However, traces of the historical atmosphere
can still be found in renovated postal taverns and museums. One old postal inn
is now a handicraft workshop, where everyone is welcome to try their hand in
making various interesting items. There are several museums along the route
that give an overview of the history and the different periods.
During this tour we learn about one of the
Estonian minorities, the Setu people, who inhabit the corner of southeast
Estonia. Seeing their traditional customs, their way of life and meeting some
of them in their own homes, gives us an opportunity to understand how they have
survived throughout the centuries.
Lake
Peipus is the 4th largest lake in Europe and the most popular place in Estonia
for ice fishing. On a sunny day there can be as many as 10 000 fishermen on the
ice at the same time. The ice fishing package includes: transfer from Tartu to
Lake Peipus and back, fishing equipment, food, and the help of a local
professional fisherman with invaluable fishing tips and techniques.
Peipsi
barge or lodi is a historical Estonian sailing ship adjusted for navigation on
lake Peipsi and river Emajõgi. This hanseatic vessel was used for trade between
Tartu and Pskov for eight centuries.
Kale is a traditional clinker-planked wooden trawler-sailer used in Võrtsjärve region.
Because of its slender appearance it was often used for regattas and leisure
cruises as well.
Kaleship and its crew await groups of up to 15 people to come and enjoy Lake Võrtsjärv and the traditional sailing ship for pleasure and study cruises.
St. John’s Church in Tartu is one of the most popular cultural and tourist sites in the city. Each year we host more than 100 concerts and other cultural events. Our many years of experience and our network of contacts mean we will be able to come up with just the right cultural programme to go with your conference.
