2011 The 2nd Baltic-China Annual Business Conference will be held on 11th October 2011 at Dorpat Conference Center in Tartu, Estonia.

Baltic-China Annual Business Conference (BCABC) is a leading EU-China (nongovernmental, non-profit) business event in the Baltic States. It is the best platform for gaining practical knowledge, getting new business ideas and expanding business networks for doing business with/in China.

This year, BCABC is expecting 150 participants from governments, enterprises, universities and other organizations. The conference is free of charge.

The European biggest festival of folk arts will gather 3,000 participants to the summery Tartu. During four days, 140 groups from 27 countries will present their cultures and traditions. The longest journeys will be taken by the Greenlandic and Cypriot visitors, the biggest numbers are coming from Finland, Latvia and Germany.

Today morning Tartu team started their trip to Kaunas where they will attend the 31st International Hanseatic Days. Tartu delegacy, consisting of 42 members, is lead by deputy mayors Tiia Teppan and Raimond Tamm.

On Wednesday, April 27th, Tartu Old Observatory celebrates its 200th anniversary and opens doors as a modern museum to visitors of all ages. The opening day offers a retrospective spectacle as well as planetarium shows and several exciting workshops. In the evening, the university symphony orchestra and the group Mahavok will give an open-air concert.

St. Anthony’s Guild offers two guest studios for visiting artists who act in the fields of leather or textile. Fully equipped studios for textile and leather work can be used for artworks, experimentation, product design, workshops, developing exhibition ideas etc. Artists from Tartu Twin Towns are welcome to apply for a residency scholarship at St. Anthony’s Guild. We seek artists with personal motivation to independently or in co-operation with local artists carry out artistic activity and engage with the local cultural environment that St. Anthony’s Guild and the city of Tartu offer.

Early morning flights from Tartu to Tallinn are operated six times a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Late evening flights from Tallinn to Tartu are operated on the same days, with the exception on weekends, when Saturday flights are operated on Sundays instead. The flights are operated with the 33-seater SAAB 340, the flight time is 45 minutes.

Exhibition, involving nine European museums, was opened on the 26th of Janury in Estonian National Museum ( J. Kuperjanovi 9 ) and is looking answers to the following questions: What do Europeans eat? How should our food be produced to save the environment?  What food supplies shall we choose to be environmental conscious consumers?  The exhibition highlights national differences and similarities, changes over time, climate and environmental issues. Visitors will also be able to see a short movie about how food really gets to our plates.

Võrtsjärv won over the jury with its strong, diverse tourist products, well-functioning cooperative networks and preservation of rich traditions. The winner will present its attractions in September at the European Tourism Forum.

There will be a wedding ceremony that introduces wedding traditions from centuries ago and where everyone can participate in as a guest.

Since the beginning the festival has gradually expanded both in duration and space with various literary events taking place in many different places in Tartu city centre during three days. The festival programme includes meetings with writers, book presentations, discussions and lectures, a book fair and Park Library, also concerts and film programmes. The festival features guests from abroad as well as several Estonian writers; in 2009 the guest of honour was the Italian writer and semiotician Umberto Eco. In 2010 the festival has foreign guests from several countries and cultures including Russia, Hungary, Germany, UK, Latvia, and Finland. The main theme of this year’s festival is The Art of Survival. The patron of Prima Vista 2010 is Estonian poet Hannes Varblane.

Once again Tartu Town Hall Square becomes the Christmas City of Tartu. As is already a tradition, this Saturday the Tartu Town Hall Square becomes the  Christmas  City  of  Tartu,  where exciting activities and events take place  almost  every  day  of  the  week.  This year all the activities are centred on the Hanseatic barge "Jõmmu" placed in the middle of the square.

The Estonian Convention Bureau, Tartu City Government and Tartu Convention Bureau have launched an ambassador programme in the country's main university city, Tartu. The first project of its kind in Estonia, the programme will recruit local academics and business people to act as partners in attracting international conferences to the city.

Customers can check in online to all Estonian Air regular flights departing from Tallinn, Tartu, Kuressaare and Brussels on Estonian Air’s homepage. Customers can also check-in online to SAS, Lufthansa and KLM connecting flights.

Starting from 24 August, Estonian Air will fly between Tartu and Stockholm four times a week.

A 33 seat Saab 340 will fly from one city to the other on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, and the flight time will be an hour and 30 minutes.

At 10 June 2009 Estonian Air started selling tickets on the Tartu-Stockholm route. Estonian Air will start operating between Tartu and Stockholm from 24 August 2009 four times a week on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. The flight time is one hour and 30 minutes.

"The Monday and Friday flights offer great opportunity to get to Tartu, both from Europe and from Swedish domestic flights. Sunday flights provide convenient connections from Tartu via Stockholm to for instance Milan, Vienna, Franfurt, Oslo and Berlin," said Rauno Parras, Estonian Air’s acting Vice President Commercial. "The flight on Thursday connects in Stockholm with many European destinations for both departing and arriving passengers," Parras added.

Tartu Song Festival will take place on 13 June 2009 at the Song Festival Ground.
It is a Jubilee to be celebrated grandly: 140 years ago the first Estonian song festival took place in Tartu. The festival is expected to gather over 8000 singers, dancers and wind band players.

Tartu Town Hall transforms into a Christmas City before Noel, where people bustle about daily. Traditional concerts are held every Advent Sunday in ST.John`s Church. The lighting of an Advent candle takes place in the town hall during sunset alongside collective caroling.People get a last chance to buy nice gifts to delight close friends and enjoy Christmas-time foods and drinks during the Christmas City fair. Top chefs from the twin towns of Tartu are presenting dishes characteristic of their national cuisine at our restaurants and cafés and also teaching the secrets of cooking to the local chefs. Baltic Theatre Festival OurDRAMA takes place from 4th to 9th of September
and brings to Tartu the best plays from the Baltic States that are based
on national authors. Two Latvian plays ("P.S. Tom Thumb" and "The Lost
Son"), two Lithuanian plays ("The Poetess" and "Autumn Comes Through the
Forest") and two Estonian plays ("The Missionaries" and "Hell") are
competing in the competition program of the festival. In addition to these
one can see past year's best plays on Estonian own classical and
contemporary dramaturgy from different Estonian theatres. The guest of
honor of the festival is the acknowledged Alvis Hermanis' "Long Life". The

Established here in Tartu in 1956, this wide-ranging folk song and dance event traditionally brings together Students from the three Baltic Countries.

Starting from Friday evening, the programme includes concerts, brass bands, torchlight processions.

The event culminates in the Song Festival where around 6,000 performers are expected to gather to sing and dance.
